What happens if I’m nervous?

It is completely normal to feel nervous before the first initial meeting.  The initial meeting is shorter – normally about 25 mins, and this is simply a chance for you to meet me and see if you feel comfortable talking, there is absolutely no commitment to anything further at this point.  Take your time finding the right therapist for you, as I really do feel that finding the person you feel at ease talking with is one of the most important aspects of the therapeutic relationship.  If after the initial meeting you would like to continue working together we can make arrangements from there.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange and appointment?

I require a minimum of 3 days notice of any cancellations or rearrangements, otherwise the normal session fee will apply.

Is there parking?

There is some free parking at the rear of the ETNA Centre.

How often are the sessions?

Sessions are normally weekly to ensure continuity in the therapeutic process.  Saying that, some clients may wish to meet less regularly after a block of initial sessions.  I would work with you to find what fits for you.

As a parent, would I need to come into the sessions with my child?

This depends on the individual child, and something we can talk about before the initial meeting.  It can sometimes be useful to present for a few minutes at the start of the initial meeting, but generally after that you would not be required to be present in the sessions.  It can be useful sometimes to be present at the review sessions, but again this is individual to the work being carried out.

How many sessions will I need?

As you can imagine, this is a difficult question to answer.  Some clients feel satisfied after a small number of sessions, and others prefer to work more long term.  This is personal preference and requirement.  I would agree with you to review our work at regular intervals, to allow you and I to check your satisfaction and that you are getting what you want from the sessions.  It is a big commitment in time, money and energy, so I really do want to make it as worthwhile as possible for you.
